Program Description:

England ~ Joel A. Katz Music & Entertainment Business in London

**The application deadline for this program is February 1, 2019.  Please keep in mind this program is competitive and acceptance to this program is first-come, first-serve.**

Following application, the primary mode of communication from the KSU Education Abroad Office and all other KSU offices pertaining to your education abroad program will be to your @students.kennesaw.edu email account.  As a KSU student, you are required to check this regularly. 
 
Program Description
 
Sign up for a Magical Mystery Tour of learning and fun in London, England!  Explore the cities rich musical heritage from the perspective of the entertainment business. This engaging Study Abroad opportunity is hosted by the Joel A. Katz Music and Entertainment Business Program (MEBUS).  Develop a digital marketing strategy inside the Sony Entertainment boardroom to launch an emerging UK artist in the US.  Learn from top Sony Executives, including Simon Cowell's marketing team.
 
Site visits, tours, speakers, and hands-on experiences will include Sony Music UK, Royal Albert Hall, Houses of Parliament, London performing rights organizations, 02 Arena, London Eye, Camden, Greenwich, Liverpool, Abbey Road Studios, Tileyard Studios, Cavern Club, Virgin Bullet train, Buckingham Palace, Tower Bridge, BME Museum, London Music Heritage Tour, Discovery Showcase Event, Arsenal Stadium, The Troubadour Club, musical performances, shows, and much more!
 
We will travel across the English countryside on board the Virgin Bullet Train for a 2-day experience in the city of Liverpool, the birthplace of the Beatles.  We will study the business relevance of modern British artists such as, Adele, Ed Sheeran, One Direction, and Stormzy.  Students will also have the opportunity to engage in a special service learning project with Sony Music while in England.

Our 4-star hotel will be located in the heart of London and the unforgettable two-week experience will include frequent excursions using the London Underground Railway.  Students will have the opportunity to earn class credits for MEBU 4490 London Study Abroad and MEBU 3398 Global Entrepreneurship for a total of 6 credit hours, that count towards earning the MEBU certificate, or can be applied as general electives in any degree program.  Classes will be a combination of pre-trip face-to-face classes at KSU and hands-on experiential learning while in England.

This exciting study abroad opportunity is offered to KSU students who have completed a MEBU course prior to the trip's Maymester departure.  Since there is limited availability, we encourage you to register early.  London is Calling! Come be part of this incredible learning experience!

A completed medical clearance form is required for acceptance onto this program. In order to
complete the medical clearance form please follow these steps:
1. Print and fill out the medical clearance form provided in your application or here:

Program Cost 2019
$3,999 Cost includes airfare, lodging, all ground transportation, excursions and admissions, breakfasts, one dinner, and insurance.

A $300 non-refundable deposit is due at the time of application. This deposit will be subtracted from your total fee. Payments are broken down into two installments:

March 1st  -  $1,849.50 
March 15th  -  $1,849.50 

Students eligible for the KSU Global Learning Scholarship will have the scholarship award amount applied to the second installment.

In order to receive scholarship, students MUST submit the Financial Aid Acknowledgment Form to the Office of Financial Aid (located in Kennesaw Hall; finaid@kennesaw.edu) AND complete the Global Learning Scholarship online application by the deadline.  Keep in mind this program DOES have service embedded and therefore students DO NOT have to do community service prior to applying for the scholarship.

During pre-departure orientations, students will receive information on health considerations, travel safety, money matters abroad, cultural adjustment, cross-cultural immersion and sensibility, student responsibilities and course requirements.

Courses

Students participating in the MEBUS London Study Abroad program are required to take both MEBU 4490 and MEBU 3398 for a total of six credit hours.  These credits can be applied to earning the MEBUS certificate or used as general electives for any degree program.

MEBU4490 - Special Topics in Music and Entertainment Business (3 credits)
Prerequisite: Permission of program director

In this course, students will demonstrate understanding of the following concepts in the music and entertainment business: transforming an entertainment business for the digital age, mobile marketing, the new content economy and tomorrow’s creative industries. Students will prepare and present an entertainment industry team research project.


MEBU3398 - Music and Entertainment Internship (3 credits)
Prerequisite: Permission of program director

This global music and entertainment entrepreneurship course is intended for music and entertainment business program students who show interest in an area of study in London and wish to pursue a discipline of practical and applied experience in greater depth. Students will work on a series of projects to understand aspects of what it is like to have a successful career in the global music and entertainment industry utilizing London as a case study while developing global entertainment entrepreneurial skills.

Application Deadline
Applications including the deposit, medical clearance form, and faculty approval are due FEBRUARY 1, 2019.  However, given the competitiveness of this program, a waitlist may be generated prior to the deadline.  It is highly encouraged by the faculty that students apply and turn in all necessary materials as soon as possible.

Important notes:

 
  • You will NOT be considered for this program until you have paid the deposit and turned in your medical clearance form. Failure to do so by the deadline will result in not being accepted onto the program
  • You must obtain faculty approval in order to be accepted on this program!

EDUCATION ABROAD REFUND POLICY & PROCEDURES

APPLICATION DEPOSIT

All application deposits are non-refundable, except in the case of:

*Program cancellation by Kennesaw State University
*A wait-listed student who is not added into the program
*A student who has applied to one education abroad program and clearly notifies the Education Abroad Office--in writing and prior to the application deadline--of his/her desire change the application to an alternate KSU program

Refunds for application deposits will be issued in the same form of payment originally used for purchase.  Please be sure to retain all account information used for purchase and notify the Education Abroad Office (EAO) in advance if there is a problem with your account.  The EAO will not be responsible for refunds sent to closed accounts.


PROGRAM FEES

Upon registration for the KSU faculty-led education abroad academic course(s), the designated program fee, which is separate from tuition, is charged to the student's account.  The student has up to one month to pay the program fee in full, following a specific payment schedule. Failure to pay the program fee in full by the stated deadline may result in deletion from the program.

All program fees are non-refundable. In all cases, the student will only receive recoverable fees, subject to the rules/policies of external service providers.  Any such refund will not include the initial application fee and will not be issued until after the education abroad program is completed.


TUITION PAYMENTS

Program fees do not include tuition.  Payment and refund of tuition will follow the normal processes establish by the Offices of the Registrar and Bursar.  Students wishing to withdraw from any study abroad program or course must submit their request in writing through the Education Abroad Office.
