This program is only available to Kennesaw State University Masters students currently enrolled in the Master of Science in International Policy Management Program!


Program Description:

Brazil MSIPM 1This course incorporates material acquired in first-year MSIPM courses and applies it to a real-world context through a study trip or other equivalent means. Students are expected to link theory with practice through a series of public and private sector site visits and service learning activities with NGOs. Students will explore how scholars and practitioners address the dilemmas of managing policy within an ever-changing global environment. The Global Experience course is mandatory for all MSIPM students. Policy issues addressed on this trip will include urban planning; international trade; poverty alleviation; science and society; and social justice; with a particular focus on the intersections between government, business and the community in the process of public policy making.

 

Prerequisite: Must be enrolled in the Master of Science in International Policy Management program and have completed the first fall and spring semesters.

Program Cost: $2990.00 (Subject to change). Does not include roundtrip flight.

Each student will be responsible for making and paying for his/her own roundtrip flight to Sao Paulo and return from Rio de Janeiro. Hotel reservations will be made in Sao Paulo and Rio by the Department of Political Science & International Affairs, and the full cost is included in the program cost. Hotel accommodation includes breakfast while the rest of the meals are the responsibility of individual students. Local transportation is included in the program cost. American citizens require a valid passport and entry visas to enter Brazil, and it is the responsibility of students to acquire a US passport and a Brazilian entry visa from the nearest Brazilian Embassy or Consulate. Non-American citizens should as soon as possible, contact the nearest Brazilian Embassy or Consulate for information about entry requirements.

Travel insurance (medical) is also included on the program cost.

Housing:

Accommodations will be in hotels, with two people to a room (double occupancy). If you desire a separate single room, you will be required to pay extra charges accordingly.

 

Courses:

IPM 7760 Global Experience 3 Credit Hours

Prerequisites: Completion of first-year fall and spring semesters. 
This course incorporates material acquired in first-year courses and applies it to a real-world context through fieldwork, a study trip, or other equivalent means. Students are expected to link theory with practice through a series of public and private sector site visits. Students will explore how scholars and practitioners address the dilemmas of managing policy within an ever-changing global environment. The Global Experience course is mandatory for all students. Trip cost is not calculated in tuition for IPM 7760; students must therefore prepare for this additional expense. If a student cannot participate in a planned trip due to extenuating or exceptional circumstances, that student may petition for approval to substitute a Professional Experience Project in its place.

 

All graduate students must have and maintain at least a 3.0 GPA to be eligible.

 

Scholarship:  $750.00 per student available.

EDUCATION ABROAD REFUND POLICY & PROCEDURES

 

AIRPLANE TICKET:  Students are required to submit proof that they have purchased a round-trip airplane ticket by December 1st.

 

EXCEPTIONSIf KSU cancels the program, students can receive a refund of their recoverable fees.

 

PROGRAM PAYMENTS:  Once students are registered for their KSU faculty-led education abroad courses, they will be charged program fees. They will have one month from the time they are registered and billed to make payment in full for program fees. These program fees are non-refundable.

 

EXCEPTIONS:

  1. Students who have legitimate documented medical, family emergencies or military reasons for withdrawing from a program after paying program fees will be eligible for a refund of all recoverable fees (these are subject to the rules/policies of external service-providers).
  2. Any such refund will not include the plane ticket, visa, and any other expenses outside of the recoverable fees.
  3. Refunds will not be issued until after the education abroad program is completed.

 

TUITION PAYMENTS: Payment of tuition will follow the normal process of the registrar and bursar for withdrawals and refunds. Students must make their request to be withdrawn in writing to the MSIPM Director in the Department of Political Science and International Affairs.
